“A successful product always has a great formulation story to tell. In the case of our HA-Plast eye contour from the HA-Plast line, product development began by considering the needs of this delicate area of the face when the signs of chronological and photo-aging become evident: thin eyelids, visible dark circles, and small dehydration lines that even concealers struggle to conceal. Correcting these signs, while following the philosophy of our line, was the challenge for our laboratory, which created a unique product in terms of performance, ease of use, and long-lasting effects.”

In conversation with Dr. Maria Cimmino, cosmetologist and formulator at MyCli, we share the key mechanisms of action behind this product, which is so appreciated by our customers.

The periocular area is very fragile and thin, like tissue paper, so protecting the hyaluronic acid present there is essential, especially considering that we cannot use intradermal fillers. How does HA-Plast work?

The formula of HA-Plast contains NAG, which stands for N-Acetyl Glucosamine. This molecule is a precursor of hyaluronic acid and works very well in the eye contour area to smooth small dehydration lines. Additionally, we chose to protect the hyaluronic acid reservoir in these tissues with CFQ acid, which inhibits the enzymes that degrade hyaluronic acid while also protecting vascular tone. Together, they form a highly effective pair, with noticeable results after just a few applications.

Besides the progressive plumping of the epidermis, HA-Plast Eye Contour also provides an evident correction for dark circles. How is this achieved?

In the eyelids and eye contour, there can be hyperpigmentation of the kind known as hemosiderin staining, or what we commonly refer to as “dark circles.” These darker areas occur where venous stasis is greater, and the skin becomes stained due to the presence of iron compounds. With HA-Plast Eye Contour, we accelerate the natural correction of these deposits, thanks to a complex called HALOXYL, which acts on two fronts in the metabolism of iron. The result is a progressive lightening of the dark circles, which becomes noticeable after just two weeks of use.

The texture is perfect: neither too runny nor too thick. How did you achieve this result?

We selected a vehicle with a dual purpose: to ensure optimal product spread and to allow for the bioavailability of the active ingredients. It’s a delicate but crucial chemical-physical balance. This vehicle consists of lipids of various densities and polymers, resulting in a creamy, soft, and comfortable emulsion—almost like a primer—that also makes applying makeup easier on the eyes.

Given the high level of challenge, we undoubtedly chose the best technologies and molecules to include in the formula, at concentrations that are much higher than those recommended by our raw material suppliers.
